Hello from the other side — of the scale.
All eyes were on Adele for her “Saturday Night Live” hosting gig this weekend, showcasing her seriously slimmed-down physique.
“I know I look really really different since you last saw me,” the singer said during her opening monologue, “but actually because of all the COVID restrictions and the travel bans, I had to travel light and I could only bring half of me, and this is the half I chose.”
Over the past year, the 32-year-old songstress has drawn both strong praise and rebukes for her recent dramatic weight loss. After posting an almost unrecognizable body-baring photo on Instagram in May to celebrate her birthday, some fans freaked out that losing that much weight is unhealthy.
Adele’s transformation is widely attributed to the Sirtfood Diet, a program founded in the United Kingdom that’s also reportedly beloved by Pippa Middleton. The plan, which is often compared to the Mediterranean diet, focuses on the protein sirtuin, found in kale, extra virgin olive oil, buckwheat, blueberries and matcha, but blessedly, also allows for dark chocolate and red wine. The first phase of the diet offers the potential for the subject to lose 7 pounds in seven days, starting with three days of 1,000-calorie limits, followed by four days of 1,500-calorie intake, after which one can eat relatively normally — if it’s a Sirtfood-packed dish, of course.
Aidan Goggins, co-author of “The Sirtfood Diet” along with Glen Matten, is thrilled with the curvy crooner’s success.
“Adele was a member of the private health club KX in London where Glen and I founded the Sirtfood Diet. And then her 2016 tour trainer Pete Geracimo encouraged her to follow the diet,” he told The Post via email. But over the past year, friends of the singer revealed to him that she’s still going strong on the Sirtfood Diet.
“They described a typical day of ‘a green juice in the morning before workout’ and meals being stuff like shrimp stir-fry with buckwheat noodles, chicken with kale. Even her treats were our exact recipe for Sirtfood bites [chocolate bites made with cocoa powder, dates, turmeric and walnuts]. It was the epitome of the diet. So we realized not only was she still a fan of it, but she was putting us to shame the way she was following it to the absolute letter.”
And now, Adele acolytes are trying out her plan seeking out similar results.
Becky Beach, 38, a mommy blogger from Arlington, Texas, has dropped some 30 pounds since starting the plan in December.
“Her sudden weight loss inspired me — she looks amazing,” said the 6-foot-tall Beach, who is now around 230 pounds, down from 260. After forsaking her beloved donuts, Twinkies and sugar in her coffee, she incorporated green juice, strawberries and kale into her diet and swears by the results. “I was in early stages of sleep apnea before, and now I breathe better,” said Beach.
Despite the glowing reviews, registered dietician Sheri Vettel, of the NYC-based Institute of Integrative Nutrition, who acknowledges that the list of foods in the plan are known to have tremendous health benefits, warns that the diet has downsides — especially in the first 1,000-calorie-a-day phase.
“Severe calorie restriction can be dangerous for some folks, including diabetics, who may have blood sugar fluctuations. This plan isn’t for everyone,” she said.
For fans like Alba, undergoing and Adele-like transformation is about more than the calories.
“Adele would walk these red carpets with all this pressure, but I don’t think she lost weight because of that. She did it for the right reasons, to be healthy for herself, and that’s what inspired me,” she said. “She didn’t lose weight to be attractive for other people — she did it for herself. That’s what I wanted to do.”
Adele is proving she's more than just a Grammy-winning musical artist as she preps to host "Saturday Night Live" for the first time this week.
The 32-year-old already showed off her comedy chops in a promo for the sketch series.
Adele is in the center besides musical guest H.E.R. and "SNL" cast member Kate McKinnon when McKinnon puts on her best English accent.
Not missing a beat, the songwriter tries an American accent. "Oh my God, no worries girlfriend," she says.
Adele couldn't contain her excitement about hosting in an Instagram post earlier this week. "Bloooooody hellllll I'm so excited about this!!" she wrote.
"And also absolutely terrified! My first ever hosting gig and for SNL of all things!!!! I've always wanted to do it as a stand alone moment, so that I could roll up my sleeves and fully throw myself into it, but the time has never been right.
"But if there was ever a time for any of us to jump head first into the deep end with our eyes closed and hope for the best it's 2020 right?" she concluded.
In another tweet from the show, Adele is seen in a jean ensemble during a cast reading with her script.
The Oscar winner was previously a musical guest in 2008 and 2015.
Jay-Z Details New Cannabis Brand ‘Monogram’
One year after becoming Chief Brand Strategist of the California-based cannabis company Caliva, Jay-Z announced his first marijuana line entitled Monogram.
The line launched with a new website and Instagram to tease the new Monogram wares, though no details about specific strains or products were released. A press release said of the brand, “With its careful strain selection, meticulous cultivation practices and uncompromising quality, Monogram seeks to redefine what cannabis means to consumers today.”
It’s also unclear when Monogram products will be available in dispensaries, and whether or not they will just be available in California or other states where marijuana is legal. The company also plans to launch a “best in class e-commerce platform dedicated exclusively to its singular product line.”
Jay-Z joined Caliva as Chief Brand Strategist last July, striking a deal for a multi-year partnership to help out with creative decisions, outreach efforts and strategy. The role, however, was also designed for the rapper to focus on social justice issues surrounding legalization, such as improving representation and participation of previously incarcerated people who are still being kept out of the legal weed business in large numbers.
“Anything I do, I want to do correctly and at the highest level,” Jay said in a statement at the time. “With all the potential in the cannabis industry, Caliva’s expertise and ethos make them the best partners for this endeavor. We want to create something amazing, have fun in the process, do good and bring people along the way.”
Jay-Z is the latest rapper to enter the legal marijuana business. In 2015, Snoop Dogg launched his own weed brand, Leafs by Snoop (it’s distributed in Canada by the weed giant Canopy Growth), while last year 2 Chainz partnered with Green Street Agency and Mazel Management Group to launch his own company, The Gas Cannabis Co. Other MCs like Wiz Khalifa, Freddie Gibbs and Juicy J have all developed their own signature strains, while in 2018 Cypress Hill’s B-Real opened his own dispensary in California, fittingly naming it Dr. Greenthumb’s.
Busta Rhymes took to Instagram to show off some serious commitment to his weight loss goals with a classic before-and-after split photo.
"DON'T EVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF!! LIFE BEGINS RIGHT NOW!!!" read the caption. "MY DEDICATION IS DIFFERENT!! I WOULD NEVER PUT OUT AN ALBUM AND NOT BE IN THE BEST SHAPE OF MY LIFE!! I RESPECT MYSELF TOO MUCH AND I RESPECT Y'ALL TOO MUCH!!! I'M ONLY HERE TO INSPIRE!!"
The legendary rapper also had a dream team of support in his journey. He tagged celebrity trainer Victor Munoz, celebrity personal chef Chef Deliche and competitive bodybuilders Dexter "The Blade" Jackson, Kai Greene and Victor Martinez in the caption and thanked them for their help and motivation.
"I'm not even surprised. What you've been able to achieve for decades is purely because of your strong self being, discipline, and perseverance," commented competitive bodybuilder Flex Wheeler. It has truly been an honor to listen and pose to your music. Getting to know you as a friend has truly been a blessing. You have inspired millions around the world and you continue to do so to this very day God bless you big Homie/King."
Though Busta doesn't post updates often about his health journey, the results have definitely been noticed. In fact, it was one of the reasons many fans were able to accurately guess him to be The Masked Singer on the costumed singing competition show.
On episode one of the fourth season of the hit show, the "Touch It" rapper was revealed to be Dragon.

Coronavirus: The new Batman movie is still being filmed in Liverpool - despite the city's Tier 3 restrictions
With heightened COVID-19 restrictions announced for Liverpool, people may have been surprised to see part of the city transformed into Gotham for filming on the new Batman movie.
Hollywood star Robert Pattinson, who plays the Dark Knight, and an unrecognisable Colin Farrell (wearing heavy prosthetics to become comic book villain the Penguin) have been photographed in character on set.
Production on The Batman began in Glasgow earlier in 2020, but was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic. In September, it was widely reported that Pattinson had tested positive for the virus, although this was not confirmed by filmmakers Warner Bros.
Now, filming has resumed in Liverpool - in the same week it was announced that the city would be the first to be placed under strict Tier 3 restrictions, the most serious, due to a high number of COVID-19 cases.
Photographs of the production - with Gotham police cars and news vans, and Batman seen riding through the streets - have raised questions as to how filming is able to go ahead when residents are banned from socialising with other households both indoors and outdoors, including in private gardens, and bars, gyms, betting shops, casinos and pubs that do not serve meals are being closed.
A spokesman for Liverpool City Council assured residents that safety measures are being adhered to.
"The new restrictions in Liverpool will not impact on filming in the city," "The Film Office is working closely with every single production to ensure COVID-safe measures are in place and are being adhered to."
Chadwick Boseman lives on in his final film as the swaggering 1920s trumpeter Levee in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”
Chadwick Boseman may have left the realm of the living far too early at the age of 43, but the Black Panther star’s legacy will be further cemented with the release of his starring role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, which will stand as his final onscreen performance.
Netflix has released the Trailer Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, a historical drama set in 1927 Chicago, in which Viola Davis co-stars as the eponymous Ma Rainey, a popular Southern singer dubbed the “Mother of Blues,” who’s come to the Second City for a crucial recording session; an endeavor complicated by her ambitious, machinations-making trumpeter, Levee (Boseman), and clashes with her manager—and other elements of the white-dominated music industry—over the creative direction of the music.
“Ma Rainey” is Boseman’s last feature film. He had been set to star in and produce the samurai action movie “Yasuke,” set in 16th century Japan, for his own production company, Xception Content. He was also slated to reprise his Marvel role of the superhero king T’Challa in “Black Panther 2.”

Miley Cyrus thinks she’s had an encounter with aliens.
The 27-year-old singer has insisted she once had an “experience” in which she and her friend were “chased down by some sort of UFO”, but has admitted they were both high at the time after buying “weed wax from a guy in a van”, so can’t be certain of what she saw.
When asked if she’s ever looked into the likelihood of alien life, she said: “I had an experience, actually. I was driving through San Bernardino with my friend, and I got chased down by some sort of UFO. I’m pretty sure about what I saw, but I’d also bought weed wax from a guy in a van in front of a taco shop, so it could have been the weed wax. But the best way to describe it is a flying snowplow. It had this big plow in the front of it and was glowing yellow. I did see it flying, and my friend saw it, too. There were a couple of other cars on the road and they also stopped to look, so I think what I saw was real.”
Miley said the experience was so shocking that it left her unable to “look at the sky” for days, because she feared the extra-terrestrials might return.
She added: I was shaken for, like, five days. It f***** me up. I couldn’t really look at the sky the same. I thought they might come back.”
However, the ‘Midnight Sky’ hitmaker insisted she “didn’t feel threatened” by the unidentified flying object.
Speaking to Rick Owens for Interview magazine, she said: “I didn’t feel threatened at all, actually, but I did see a being sitting in the front of the flying object. It looked at me and we made eye contact, and I think that’s what really shook me, looking into the eyes of something that I couldn’t quite wrap my head around. But you’re so right to say that it’s a form of narcissism to think that we’re the only things that could be in this vast universe.”
